Many service providers have SPAM filtering solutions but no filtering program is 100% effective. Spammers are constantly evolving their techniques and fraudulent messages are appearing more and more legitimate.
Here are some safety reminders for email:
- Always check the received-from, reply-to or return path of the email. Spammers will try to look like they are sending from a valid name but the full email address is usually a giveaway.
- Never provide personal information through the Internet or by email.
- Use caution before clicking on links in any email you receive. Some criminals may be using a technique known as phishing to steal your personal information when you click on the link.
Example of virus from link:
- Never open a compresses or zipped attachment. I’ve seen viruses installed from zipped files from “Purolator”, “Fedex”, fake invoices, and fake resumes.
When in doubt or if you’re suspicious it’s best to delete it.
